ROCHESTER MINNESOTA GETS DUSTING: FIRST SNOW OF FALL 2023!

ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA (Rochester Sun Times™) –The temperature dropped to the coolest this fall season, today, in Rochester. While working on this story and filming the snow, it was 28-degrees Fahrenheit. While the snow fell, it may be said it was a foreshadowing of what is for sure going to freeze: your beautiful plants. It’s time to bring them in, or say goodbye to them, thank them for their beauty and your time together.

The coldest Halloween I remember as a newly married and instant stepmother was Halloween1991. The memory of it, still breezes through my thought as Halloween approaches. It was, as the Weather.gov states, the “Perfect Storm.” Three kids under seven, and a sleet-snow mixture with high winds and temperatures that dropped so fast, our pumpkins had frost on their eyebrows. We opted for Apache Mall Trick-or-Treating that year.

Halloween 1991, my first Halloween with my new instant-family, costumes and make-up all prepared, that turned out to be the Blizzard of 1991. You can read more about that storm here: https://www.weather.gov/dlh/1991halloweenblizzard.

Enjoy the light accumulation of snow. I brought my shovel out—just in case. If nothing else, I’ll use it to scrape the new pile of wet leaves rising to a few inches on my desk, maples, walnut, and birch tree leaves in every color, ones that looked exactly like the ones I scraped off before the snow. I’ll probably save a few of them, like I do every year, pressing them in a book to look back on in the future and remember today, Saturday, October 28, 2023, as the first day it snowed this fall. Onward.

—See you on the Journey, Lisa

ROCHESTER WOMAN SHOT IN HER ELBOW, BULLET MISSES CHEST!

On Friday, October 20, 2023, Chris (last name withheld to protect her privacy), went to work at Park Towers in downtown Rochester, like always, and was shot.

                         Shooter

The suspected shooter is Robin Helmuller. He is in custody at the Olmsted County Detention Center. He’s booked on suspicion of felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and also with a felony reckless discharge of a firearm endangering safety.

Chris began moving her arm when the gun fired and was struck on the elbow. Chris told my husband, “It ricocheted off my elbow and missed my chest.”

We called Chris last night. She was at St. Mary’s Hospital. Her elbow now had a plate. She is, once again, a survivor. Cancer first, and now a shooting.

She told us, “You’ve taken calls from the shooter.”

We have.
